Where did these invasive fish originate? They came from Southeast Asia, originally imported with the intent of keeping retention ponds of water therapy establishments clean. Where there were floods, the fish escaped to the Mississippi River system. They moved to Missouri and also Illinois. As the rivers in between Illinois, Mississippi, and also Missouri are attached, either normally, or via canals, the fish got away and also invaded brand-new waters. There is a canal system that links the Fantastic Lakes and the Illinois River.

The issue is there is no recognized way to eradicate this invasive types. If the carp get into a limited area of a river, for instance, barriers could be presented to avoid motion outside those waters, and after that measures could possibly be taken to disrupt the spawning cycle. But when it involves the Great Lakes, there is no means understood yet to completely eradicate these Eastern carp, so they do continue to be a risk to both the native fish species, and to travelers that are boating as well as angling.
